About Sarah

Sarah Nelson is the author of books for young readers, including Follow the Flyway, Frogness, and A Park Connects Us. Sarah’s lyrical picture books explore a variety of fiction and nonfiction topics, but she especially loves writing about nature, the little (oh, so real) dramas of childhood, and inspiring, lesser-known moments in history. Whether playful or soulful, poetry or prose, Sarah strives for humor, a sense of wonder, and that musical read-aloud-ability that makes a great picture book sing.

When not writing, Sarah teaches English to adult immigrants and feels lucky to have some of the very nicest students in the world. Sarah loves reading, researching, and learning new things, but also enjoys sharing time with friends and family, practicing the piano, and taking walks in the parks around her Minnesota home. In fact, she often spots book ideas in the parks, as they hop, honk, or pedal by.

Sarah holds graduate and undergraduate degrees in English and is a licensed educator and longtime member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. She is represented by Marietta B. Zacker of the Gallt and Zacker Literary Agency. Read more.
